HISTORICAL ARCHITECTURE
The Maltese Islands have a unique position in the middle of the Mediterranean sea and because of this they were used, or invaded by other larger countries.
Over the centuries buildings rose according to the style and need of those who ruled over Malta.
Starting with our prehistoric temples which predate the Egyptian pyramids and ending with the ultra modern revamp of the Valletta city gate and surroundings, we have all sorts of architecture spread over the islands.
The most prolific builders were the Knights of St John and each Grandmaster was obliged to leave a 'Jewel' of a project for the benefit of the Islands.
Since the Knights ruled over Malta from the middle of the 16th century till the end of the 18th, they left behind a great number of buildings of different styles mainly Baroque not only in the cities but also all over the countryside.

This section contains my paintings of buildings or parts thereof, some of which do not exist any more.
